Type of Window
Arched windows are one of those architectural details that make a room feel special. The curves, the height, the way light pours in. But covering them? That's where most homeowners hit a wall. Standard blinds are built for straight lines, not half-circles and sweeping curves. Off-the-shelf options won't even come close.
At Blindsgalore, our arched window shades are 100% custom-built to follow the exact curve of your window. The pleated cellular fabric fans out naturally to match the arch, creating a clean, built-in look that controls light and adds insulation without taking away from the architectural beauty you fell in love with in the first place.
What to Know About Arch Blinds for Windows
Arched windows come in different shapes, and the shape determines which products will work and how you order them.
Perfect arches are the most common.
A perfect arch means the height of the curved portion measures exactly half of the width. For example, a window 40" wide at its base is 20" tall at the center point. If your window is a perfect half-circle, you can order arch blinds online with just your width and height measurements.
Non-perfect arches need a template.
If the height isn't exactly half of the width, or the curve isn't consistent at all points, you have a non-perfect arch. Even a deviation of 1/16" changes the shape. For these windows, our design experts will walk you through creating a simple paper template so the shade can be fabricated to your exact curve. Give us a call at (877) 702-5463 and we'll guide you through it.
Palladian windows combine an arch with a rectangular window below.
For windows under 40" wide, an "arch over standard" option is available on most arched cellular shade orders. This pairs a stationary arch shade on top with an operable cellular shade below, connected by a slotted headrail for a seamless, unified look.
Most arch blinds are stationary.
Because arched windows are typically decorative features set high on the wall, the shades stay in a fixed position. This actually works in your favor. Once installed, the shade quietly filters or blocks light all day without any adjustment needed.
Best Types of Arched Window Blinds
Cellular Arch Shades
Cellular shades are the most popular and effective solution for arched windows. The pleated honeycomb fabric fans out naturally to follow curves, and the cell structure adds genuine insulation, which helps regulate temperature in rooms with large or high-set windows. The Blindsgalore Select Light Filtering Arch Cellular Shades are available in a range of colors to match your decor, with a painted aluminum bottom rail that color-coordinates with the fabric for a polished finish. Clear fabric supports are included to help maintain the arch's structure over time, and all installation hardware (metal brackets, screws, and fabric clips) comes in the box. For rooms that need total darkness, the blackout option blocks harsh sunlight and glare while still insulating against heat and cold. This collection also coordinates with standard Blindsgalore Select Cellular Shades, skylights, and vertical cellular shades, so you can achieve a cohesive look throughout your entire home.
The Bali Perfect Arch Cellular Shades are engineered specifically for half-circle and fan-shaped windows, with light filtering in a 3/4" single cell and blackout in a 1/2" double cell construction. They coordinate with other Bali Cellular Shades for visual continuity between arched and rectangular windows in the same room.
Coordinating Arch and Rectangular Windows
When an arched window sits above a standard rectangular window, getting the details right makes all the difference. Match the fabric color, pleat size, and light control level between the arch shade and the rectangular shade below. This creates a unified, intentional look rather than two separate treatments that happen to be next to each other. Our Blindsgalore Select Light Filtering Cellular Shades and Blindsgalore Gallery Cellular Shades both offer arch-compatible counterparts for seamless coordination.
Palladian Shelves for Arched Windows
Palladian shelves provide a smart, design-forward solution when you want to preserve the beauty of an arched window while still adding light control below. Installed at the part of the window where the arch begins, the shelf visually separates the rectangular lower portion. The shelf then allows you to treat each section appropriately without sacrificing the architectural impact. We recommend our Blindsgalore Palladian Shelf for a clean, low-profile finish that blends seamlessly with your window frame.
How to Measure Arched Window Blinds
Accurate measurements are essential for arch blinds. Small errors show up more on curved windows than straight ones.
For a perfect arch inside mount, measure the width at the widest point (the base of the arch) and the height from the base to the highest point of the curve. Verify that the height is exactly half of the width. Measure at multiple points along the curve to confirm the radius is consistent.
For an outside mount, measure the total area you want to cover and add overlap on each side for better light control. Keep in mind that outside mount brackets will be visible.
If you're unsure whether your arch is perfect, our design experts can review your measurements before you order to make sure the fit is right. Visit our measuring guide for step-by-step instructions, or call (877) 702-5463 for personalized help.
Arched Window Blinds FAQ
Cellular arch shades are the most popular choice for arched window blinds because the pleated honeycomb fabric naturally fans out to follow curves, creating a clean, built-in look. They also add insulation and come in both light-filtering and blackout fabrics. Shutters are another excellent option, especially for traditional and Mediterranean-style homes where the sunburst louver pattern highlights the window's architecture. For a deeper look at all available options, read our guide to Custom Arched Window Treatments.
Yes, but only with products specifically designed for curved openings. Standard horizontal blinds can't bend to follow an arch. Cellular arch shades and custom shutters are built to match your window's exact curve. At Blindsgalore, we custom-build arched window shades for both perfect arches (orderable online) and non-perfect arches (with a template through our design team).
Most arched blinds are stationary, meaning they stay in a fixed position once installed. Because arched windows are often decorative features placed high on the wall, a fixed shade works well since it provides consistent light control and insulation without needing daily adjustment. Operable arch systems with specialized track designs are available for homeowners who want adjustable light control.
Measure the width at the base and the height from base to the top of the curve. If the height is exactly half of the width, you have a perfect arch. For example, a window 36" wide should measure exactly 18" tall. If the numbers don't match, or if the curve isn't consistent at every point, it's a non-perfect arch and you'll need to create a template. Contact our team at (877) 702-5463 for step-by-step guidance.
Yes. For windows under 40" wide, most arched cellular shade orders include an "arch over standard" option. This pairs a stationary arch shade on top with an operable cellular shade below, connected by a slotted headrail for a seamless look. Match the fabric color and opacity between both sections for visual continuity.
Absolutely. Cellular arch shades use the same honeycomb construction as standard cellular shades, trapping air in their cells to create an insulating barrier. This helps regulate temperature in rooms with large or high-set arched windows, which can otherwise be significant sources of heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter. Arch shades typically mount at a single top point, allowing the fabric to fan outward to follow the curve. Clear fabric support clips are screwed into the wall, and the fabric is gently pushed into the clips once installed. All mounting hardware and step-by-step instructions are included with every order. Most homeowners install them successfully on their own. For more installation resources, visit our installation guide.
Gently dust with a soft cloth or vacuum with an upholstery brush attachment, working from the top of the arch downward. For stubborn spots, use a damp cloth with mild soap. Never submerge any blinds or shades in water, as it can damage the cellular fabric and operating components. More tips in our guide to Easy Cleaning Hacks for Window Blinds.
